Buzzword: McJob
A filet o’ language brings us this week’s Marketplace Money buzzword: McJob.
McJob is defined by the Oxford English dictionary as “an unstimulating, low-paid job with fee prospects.” That defition got McDonalds executives . . . McAngry. They say it’s demeaning to their workers. So Big Mac placed a special order with the Oxford editors: McDonalds wants the definition changed to mean “a job that’s stimulating and rewarding.” In other words, the exact opposite of how the term is used.
McDonalds’s future plans may include changing the word “war” to mean “peace,” “freedom” to mean “slavery” and “ignorance” to mean “strength.”
