General Motors is in the midst of a solar-powered makeover. The company is harnessing the power of the sun at its largest plant in Europe with the world’s largest solar-powered rooftop. GM is also expected to announce that it’s investing in solar power for its European factories, with plans for one particular outlet in St. Petersburg and panels being considered for its other 19 plants in Europe.
The solar panels will cost $78.5 million and provide about a quarter of the power needed to keep the factory running during peak production.
At the same time, accelerated production is underway for the Volt, GM’s electric car. One blog even mentions a solar panel roof option.
