Prius may be one of the few products in the auto industry that you could actually call “scarce.” Many Toyota dealers are putting buyers on waiting lists, with the potential to wait up to two months for delivery (quite a difference from May, when sales were declining on a battery supply issue). And many don’t want to wait and are bidding up the price of used Priuses. In June, the average price of a used Prius was about $1,300 above the cost of a new one.
Toyota’s working to meet this demand. In 2010, the company will begin making the Prius at a plant in Blue Springs, Mississippi.
