**Easy Answer: Texas is the biggest wind generator by a long shot.
The US currently has the capacity to produce enough electricity each day to power nearly 10 million homes. Texas accounts for more than 30 percent of wind energy production. Other big wind states include Iowa and California.
According to the Department of Energy, the US could use wind energy to produce 20 percent of the nation’s power by 2030 if it improved the transmission infrastructure and increased turbine installations from approximately 2,000 per year in 2006 to almost 7,000 per year in 2017. You can find the full report here.
That’s a lot of turbines–considering a new California [wind-energy project],() set to be the largest in the US, will include the installation of 600 turbines.
But wind energy development has been slumping. According to a report out today from the American Wind Energy Association, new wind power installations are down more than 50%.
