Amazon Europe either hacked or not

John Moe Dec 13, 2010

Several European Amazon sites were down over the weekend, leading any sensible person to think that perhaps Anonymous was taking more revenge against the company in response to their dropping Wikileaks from their rental servers. But Amazon says the failure was mechanical and not the result of a DDoS attack. Specifically, they said, it had to do with network routing devices that failed, necessitating the traffic to be re-routed until repairs could be made. This is one of those cases where of course that’s what they’d say if it was an attack. It’s also what they’d say if it wasn’t. Anyway, Anonymous (or someone claiming to speak for them) says the focus is now breaking away from DDoS attacks and towards the dissemination of the cables themselves.
