Apple didn’t have to attend the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to make headlines.
The company simply took advantage of opportune timing. It launched the Mac App Store early Thursday — offering more than 1,000 free and paid apps for OS X users – just as the rest of the industry gathered for day one of the world’s largest consumer electronics tradeshow.
The day hasn’t been completely flawless for Apple. Some users are repeatedly seeing the message, “We could not complete your App Store request. An unknown error occurred (100),” when they try to download an app, Mashable.com reports.
The Mac App Store is available for Snow Leopard users through a software update as part of Mac OS X v10.6.6.
Apple users will easily find their way around the online store. It’s set-up like the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, so shoppers can log-in with their Apple account ID and browse apps by category or search for something specific.
Apps such as iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand can be downloaded for $14.99 each. Others are free. For high-tech apps, expect to pay about $80 or more.
