The Microsoft CEO really focused on what was happening with the Kinect system. What’s happening is huge sales. Ballmer says the company has moved 8 million Kinects so far, which would obviously blow away their previous and already pretty ambitious figure of 5 million. But this is a case of 8 million units being shipped to retailers, not sold to actual humans. Still, given the hot status of the item, it’s still a huge hit. Microsoft also demonstrated the non-gaming uses of Kinect in the living room, showing how it can be used to navigate through Netflix and Hulu Plus (which both operate out of the Xbox Microsoft sold you, naturally). Would you rather wave your arms around to flip between shows instead of just using a dang remote? I don’t get these new fangled ways! You kids get off my lawn!
