The famed telephone and telegraph company is watching a lot of customers jump to Verizon for the iPhone so they’re trying to think of ways to get people to stay. AT&T announced yesterday that customers on unlimited messaging plans can call any other mobile phone, doesn’t matter the network, and it won’t count against the minutes on their phone plans. In a world moving away from land lines, this begins to look like a scenario where phone service is basically free (when you can get phone coverage on AT&T anyway)(ouch, did he really say that? That was MEAN). Of course, you also have to think about the future involving more data calling, more VoIP, and then remember all those data caps that carriers are putting in place. Follow the money, my friends, follow the money.
