iPhone Nano becomes more real

John Moe Feb 14, 2011

Last week we talked about the beginning of chatter regarding a new iPhone to possibly premiere later this year. It would be simpler, less feature rich, and cost $200 WITHOUT a mandatory service plan. Now that rumor has spread to the Wall Street Journal and to reporter Yukari Iwatani Kane, who some believe to have access to the controlled leaks from Apple, since her leaks always seem to come true and come at times that are convenient for Apple. The latest report is that the new phone would be about half the size of the current iPhone, this report comes right after HP announced a credit card size smartphone of their own to be released later this year.

Kane’s report also indicates Apple’s Mobile Me service might become free for everyone later this year. Apple is well aware of all the new phones and tablets coming on line and I guess they’re staying aggressive.

Kane also reports that Steve Jobs, while officially on medical leave, is working from home and calling all the shots at Apple. She cites the famous “people familiar with the matter”. Late last week, Apple stock took a hit when the lines for Verizon’s iPhone were either incredibly short or non-existent.
