Online advertising passes print

John Moe Apr 14, 2011

Not that we needed many more indicators of the trend in print but pixels are raking in more money than ink, according to a new report by the Internet Advertising Bureau. The organization says internet advertising took in 26 billion dollars in 2010, compared to only 22.8 billion dollars for print. I mean, not that 22.8 billion dollars is meaningless, if I saw it on the street I’d certainly bend down to pick it up, but this is the first time online has passed print. TV is still the king at 28.6 billion. Search ads are still the king but display ads are growing and the top 10 tech companies accounted for 72% of all advertising revenues. So it’s a good business if you work at Google, not such a great business to try to break into.
