Title: Blue Collar, White Collar, No Collar: Stories of Work
Edited by: Richard Ford
Publisher: Harper Perennial
Type: Fiction Anthology
Released: April 19, 2011
Length: 624 pages
The idea for Blue Collar, White Collar, No Collar: Stories of Work came from a recent visit that Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist Richard Ford took to a school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He decided to edit an anthology of stories he loved that touch on the theme of employment (very much on the minds of local residents) and donate a share of the proceeds to the literacy nonprofit 826Michigan. The result is this collection, featuring such literary heavyweights as Donald Barthelme, Alice Munro, Tobias Wolff, Jhumpa Lahiri and Eudora Welty. The stories range from the funny and bittersweet to the tragic, reminding us, as Ford tells us, of “the details which the headlines don’t convey.”
