Head of country’s cyber agency resigns

Steve Henn Jul 26, 2011

The Department of Defense doesn’t want to talk about why Randy Vickers resigned as director of the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team. US- CERT is the agency that’s in charge of defending the government’s IT systems from attacks. It’s been a big job lately, with a summer of hacks from groups like LulzSec and Anonymous attacking various government sites from the FBI, the CIA, the Navy and contractors Booz Allen Hamilton and IRC Federal.

Just ten minutes from now, at 11am Eastern, the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Oversight will hold a hearing on the Department of Homeland Security’s “role and ability to protect government and private networks.” So, we’re talking critical infrastructure like the electric grid and nuclear power plants.
