We told you about this problem in Tuesday’s memo and it was being widely blamed on the hardware of the new iPhone 4S, although we hinted at the time that some iPhone 4 users were also complaining about it. Now Apple says it’s the iOS 5 operating system. Apple is on it and has already released a beta version of 5.0.1, a patch meant to address this and other issues. Besides the battery problem, it’s meant to solve a security problem related to the iPad 2 covers.
Users found that, with either a Smart Cover or indeed a simple magnet, along with some button presses in a specific combination, the iPad 2 lock could be bypassed and access granted to whatever app was active when the tablet was last secured.
