Mid-day Extra: Are brands politically neutral?

We’re counting up all the votes today after an election day full of ballot measures and local and state races.

Voters in Ohio have repealed the state’s new law limiting collective bargaining rights for unionized state workers. And elections always get us thinking about “voting with the almighty dollar.”

Of course that adage means Americans can vote at specific times of the year — but we all
make decisions about what to buy every day.

So in today’s Mid-day Extra, we ask: do Democrats and Republicans like the same companies?

For the second year in a row, YouGov’s Brand Index measured the most popular U.S. Brands for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.

To explain the survey, we went to Ted Marzilli,
global managing director of YouGov’s Brand Index.

He says that a lot of the top brands can be universally American, but the ones that are popular for one political group and not another might surprise you.
