Piggy Bank Award: An homage, in oils
Tess Vigeland: Our little blue plastic friend is heading to The Woodlands, Texas, about 30 miles north of Houston to the home of artist Suzie Baker. We know Suzie is already familiar with our pig, because she painted an homage to him! The artwork — a still life in oil — is titled “Bacon and Eggs: A Recession Painting.” A pink piggy stands next to what looks like perhaps a soft-boiled egg in a cup. A few coins a strewn around them.
Here is how Baker describes it on her Etsy page.
Suzie Baker: The recession has us all pinching our pennies and hoping that in the end we all have a little more bacon and eggs to go around.
I’m a podcast junky – this painting is inspired by Marketplace Money’s, Tess Vigland’s “Little Piggy” award. You Rock Tess – and Chris!
This little piggy has been all around the world with my expat friend Laura who lent him to me so he could get his portrait made. In his tummy are many US coins as well as some Pounds, Euros, and a few Bahraini Dinar. He is an optimist an has high hopes for his fellow “PIGS” (Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain).
I’m crossing my fingers that his next trip to the “Market” doesn’t send him “wee-wee-weeing” all the way home.
Baker says she’s a Marketplace Money podcast junkie and the painting was directly inspired by our weekly piggy award. So how could we not give her one?!
Our blue plastic friend will get a few nips and tucks before leaving Los Angeles in the hopes she might capture his beauty somewhere down the line.
