7 million Apple, Android devices activated on Christmas Day, no stats available on myrrh

John Moe Dec 28, 2011

Google says 3.7 million Android devices were activated over the Christmas weekend. Meanwhile, research firm Flurry Analytics says the total number of Apple iOS and Android devices activated over the weekend approached 7 million. Well, of course that’s a lot but raw numbers don’t tell the story, comparisons do: that figure is about twice the number of activations compared to last Christmas. I suspect the smoking gun here is Amazon. There were plenty of Kindles sold last year but this was the year of Kindle and Kindle Fire ubiquity, the year that the device is priced low enough to give to kids. Kindles are Android devices even if Amazon piles enough stuff on top of them to make that hard to recognize.
