Steve Jobs action figure canceled

John Moe Jan 17, 2012

The company that had planned to sell a one-foot high Steve Jobs action figure says it’s canceling the enterprise. In Icons says none of the dolls have shipped and anyone who ordered one will get their money back. The company received cease and desist letters from Apple when it originally announced the item but says it still believes it has every legal right to make the toy.

It’s a weird situation when you think about it. Does Apple OWN Steve Jobs as a piece of intellectual property? I guess I could see a complaint coming from the estate of Steve Jobs, frankly I’m not sure how much control a public figure has over his or her own likeness. But from Apple?
