A new video game sends a ripple through the Deadhead communit.
A new video game has Deadheads truckin’ over to their computers to download it.
Come hear Uncle John’s Grateful Dead video game, playing to the tide.
OK, I think you get the point. There’s a new video game, and its target audience is Grateful Dead fans. Gamemaker Curious Sense Inc asked Deadheads to send in a lists of their all-time favorite Dead shows, which were whittled down to 10 to create the game dubbed Epic Tour. The premise is pretty simple: try to attend all 10 shows, man.
Rolling Stone writes, “The Epic Tour is also designed to be a social game in which users battle good and evil forces (‘Light’ versus ‘Dark’) in a communal experience aimed toward finding some kind of higher ground, so to speak.”
When it comes to merchandising the Dead, nothing comes for free. Memberships to play the game go from $10 (burrito level) to $400 (diamond level).
Reuters adds: “Other musical acts are beginning to test the videogame market too, including a recently announced one from hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and a Jimmy Buffet ‘Margaritaville’ game.”
Top five games I’m looking forward to: 1. Superfreak: the Rick James experience 2. Silver Bullet: rockin’ with Seger 3. Jane’s Addiction (oddly, this one will have nothing to do with the band and is simply about a precocious five-year-old who REALLY likes unicorns) 4. Slay Slayer: kill or be killed by these monsters of speed metal 5. Rolling Stones: a Sisyphean journey of trying to be satisfied by playing “Satisfaction” over and over again.
Oh, and yes the launch date for Epic Tour is 4/20.
