Our little blue plastic friend is heading to Fayetteville, N.C. and the home of listener Katie Davis. She wrote to us on Facebook about the “pay yourself first” system her husband, Matt, instituted in their home — automatic investments out of their checking account each month, a budgeting spreadsheet, maxing out their IRAs. And she’s most grateful that he made this all routine, so she could maintain the system while he deployed to Afghanistan for eight months. “His financial leadership,” she wrote, “has enabled us to live well within our means and save save save for the future. He would get such a kick out of getting one of your blue piggy banks!”
Piggy is on the way, Katie, with one caveat: I know your barbecue is delicious there in North Carolina, but this pig will not do you any good on a spit slathered in sauce.
