Events now have a slick, new, ultra-modern look. Actually, it’s a big box with a bunch of little boxes inside. That’s right, Facebook has changed the way you view events on your account from an annoying list of things that’s tough to navigate to a good old-fashioned calendar. Maybe you’re really good about writing birthday wishes on friends’ walls, but if you’re like me, you get a weekly email telling you who’s getting a year older then you completely forget about it. Well, now you can see everybody’s upcoming ageing days on the new calendar. Sometimes we all have to get a little KISS in our lives (Keep It Simple Stupid).
The idea of putting all of your Facebook events (and friends’ birthdays) onto a calendar within Facebook is so obvious that it’s sort of sad that it took a “hackathon” until dawn to come up with it
Facebook was built on the premise of hacking the status quo and building something new and has continued, even on the very big day of its IPO, to hold 24-hour hackathons to build new features for the site. No telling whether this came about on the day that Silicon Valley minted a truckload of new millionaires, but I’m glad to see the new calendar.
