The government of Iran sees pornography as a crime, not just within its own borders but all over the world. Now it says it wants to team up with Facebook to eradicate online porn the world over. Well, Iran, do let me know how that works out for you.
From the Associated Press:
A Tuesday report by (semi-official government news service) ISNA quotes Gen. Kamal Hadianfar, head of Iran’s cyber-police, as saying the country is trying to remove pages on Facebook created by Iranian citizens that promote pornography and prostitution.
Gen. Hadianfar said the plan would be made possible by cooperation from Facebook. He did not elaborate.
No word from Facebook on the prospective partnership. Can’t imagine Zuckerberg is on the next flight to Tehran. Facebook is banned in Iran, has been ever since the uprising in 2009. And Facebook of course doesn’t allow porn on its site. Could this be a sign that Iran will allow Facebook to be switched on again?
