Apple event scheduled for 9/12? Oh boy! Go bonkers! New shiny things maybe!

John Moe Jul 31, 2012

Looks like Apple has scheduled a big press event on Wednesday, the 12th of September, and the buzz is that the company will announce the iPhone 5 and perhaps the iPad Mini and maybe a car engine that runs on saltwater and hey who knows maybe a way to make orange juice not taste gross after you brush your teeth. Okay but at least that first one or two. We’re going off of an anonymous sources here and even the source, forced to trudge through life with no name, the poor dear, says that data may shift. But at least the source is chatty since Reuters and something called iMore are reporting this.

All Things D expects a whole ton of new Apple stuff for the fall because it notes a spike in component parts:

According to Apple’s latest 10-Q filing, prepayment for inventory components rose $1.15 billion sequentially in the June quarter. That’s a big increase, one that puts such prepayments at their highest level in four years — 12.6 percent of Apple’s total sales, according to Wells Fargo Securities analyst Maynard Um. And as Um notes, they’re a good indicator that Apple is ramping up for a big product launch — or several of them.
“Historically, such increases have been followed by a solid ramp-up in revenue in the following 2-3 quarters,” Um said in a Monday note to clients. “In our view, an increase in inventory component prepayment may suggest that Apple is securing supply for potential new product launches.”
