What teachers can expect as Chicago strike ends
It’s back to school today in Chicago. In the next couple of weeks, teachers will vote on the tentative contract deal reached between the union, and negotiators for the school district and Mayor Rahm Emmanuel.
So who came out on top here?
“The district may have won before it even got started,” argues Kate Walsh, president of the National Council on Teacher Quality. “[It] got most of what it was asking for.”
When it comes to the teachers’ side of the argument, things get a little fuzzier. “The union may feel like it didn’t get what it was asking for,” says Walsh. “Teachers in the long-run won’t lose.”
