BBC to play anti-Thatcher ‘Ding Dong’ song in countdown
This final note as we send you into your weekend. You all know this song, right?
From the “Wizard of Oz,” of course. Judy Garland, 1939 — and this weekend, one of the top hits over in the U.K.
It’s gonna be on a BBC countdown show on Sunday. Why, you ask? It’s not very nice.
An online campaign of anti-Margaret Thatcherites getting people to buy the song to mark the former Prime Minister’s death. The BBC says it was a difficult decision, but that they’ll play a bit of it on the air.
Mrs. Thatcher’s defenders are outraged.
Who wins here? Well Time Warner, for one. The media giant owns the copyright.
