Ground control to Major Tom…you owe us a lot of money
If you’re considering moving to Canada based on Tuesday’s primary results, maybe consider space. Here are some need-to-know numbers for Wednesday.
Jeff Bezos announced that he expects his company Blue Origin to take paying astronauts into space by 2018. That’s assuming flights with test pilots are successful in 2017. Don’t get too excited — we’re not talking about a full-blown expedition to Mars. It’s more like a couple brief moments of weightlessness, and a killer view of planet earth. And as Reuters writes, the company expects to charge comparable rates for similar experiences offered by others. Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic charges $250,000 per ticket, for example.
At that price, we’d settle for watching a live-feed from space. And you know who would likely want to offer that service? Facebook. The social media company is thinking a lot about driving people to their live-feed capabilities these days, as users watch 100 million hours of video on the site everyday. And there’s one event they’re hoping to scoop up: Thursday Night Football. It makes sense, considering the possibilities for holding a captive audience, and pulling in ad revenue.
But maybe Facebook should be more concerned about its basic security. A techie from India recently collected a bounty from the company for discovering a security flaw that allowed him to log-in as any user on the site. Yes, ANY user. By using a maneuver through a beta site, Anand Prakash was able to reset passwords, gaining access to people’s profiles. As Mashable Tech writes, Prakash was paid about $15,000 for his discovery.
