German grocer Aldi expands all the way to California
This week the discount grocery chain Aldi started opening new stores in Southern California as part of a $3 billion expansion plan. The German company aims to have 2,000 U.S. stores operating in the next couple years, up from about 1,400 today. Aldi will face a competitive grocery market in southern California. But retail experts said they expect Aldi will succeed with its expansion. Its no-frills, low-price model is making it one of the fastest growing food retailers today.
