Illegal fisherman are trawling the GDP in Sierra Leone
The fishing industry is integral to Sierra Leone’s economy, accounting for 10 percent of the total GDP. Although there are small-scale local fisherman, the country largely relies on selling licenses to foreign fishing firms to trawl the waters. However, failure to manage large-scale industrial fishing and patrol illegal vessels has damaged the local economy.
